If you've dreamed of drinking tea with Mary Todd Lincoln, listening to tales by Ulysses S. Grant, or learning about the importance of corn and where it originated, this is your opportunity. The Illinois Bicentennial will be celebrated in Orion with these events and more.
Local history will be interwoven with Illinois history. Come learn about Orion's business history, enjoy a quilt show and an historic ball (preceded by dance lessons!) featuring the Tony Hamilton Orchestra, Civil War music and more music by the Orion Community Band and Orion High School Band, and food of Illinois presented by Maple Street Grille for only $5 a plate. A military ceremony will also take place.
Seating for Tea with Mrs. Lincoln on August 4th is limited to 60. Reservations can be made at any time with village hall personnel. Cost is $10/ea. and must be paid at the time of reservation. Cash or check only please. Reservations for the Historic Ball on August 5th can also be made at village hall, $10/ea. or $15/couple, to be paid at the door.
This event is made possible by a joint venture between the Village of Orion and Main Street Orion. A full schedule of events will be made available at a later date. Stay tuned!

Another Option for E-Waste
Eagle Enterprises Recycling, Inc. is pleased to announce the opening of an electronics collection site at its facility in Galva. Beginning January 2012, the number of electronic items banned from landfills will be expanded, making it ever more difficult to dispose of those televisions, computer monitors, printers, and the like.
Electronic recyclables cannot be combined with residential recyclables, so DO NOT put electronics in your curbside bin. Electronics can only be disposed by transporting them to 510 S. E. Industrial Avenue, Galva, during Eagle's business hours of 6:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Saturdays. There is no charge for bringing items to the collection site.
Don't Miss Your Chance to Recycle Curbside
Curbside recycling is available to all single family homes in Orion. To obtain a roll-out container, call Eagle Recycling at 1.888.932.2936. The company will deliver the container directly to your house. Pick up is every other Thursday. The fee to participate is $3.25 per month and is automatically added to your monthly utility bill. Seniors who qualify for the senior property tax freeze through the Henry County Assessor's office will not be charged the fee. The village will obtain an updated list from Henry County once per year.
